Xchg writes in with a somewhat speculative, though plausible, piece from WiseAndroid claiming that Google is gearing up for an all-out assault on the mobile-phone market that will include a new, Google-branded handset and the first comprehensive Google phone service with unlimited free calls. "The real breakthrough, however, will come with the ...

They’ll probably give more than a glance at “Googled.” I read the book in three huge gulps and learned a lot — about Google’s “cold war” with Facebook, about Google’s tussles with Viacom, about Google’s role in the “Yahoo-Microsoft melee” and about Google’s gradual ...

Aria Volume 5 by Kozue Amano Reading Aria is the manga equivalent of going on a lazy exotic vacation. I previously enjoyed the first volume, but I wasn’t bowled over by the lack of plot even though the manga contains beautiful background art. I think my opinion has softened a bit, because I enjoyed reading the [...]

I was going to empty the bags, but then I noticed a sky blue colour under one of them. There it was, yay. I also found two hats, a scarf/hood combination, and two mismatched gloves. :)
From Danville and from work tonight. It's cold and frosty outside, so I'm going to look for my coat before bed. It was a good visit. We stopped in Danville to pick up my grandmother and my stepfather John's mother, and then we went to Stanford to my mom's house and had Thanksgiving dinner. The only things I couldn't eat were the stuffing, the ...

From the Article: The widespread use of the Internet has taken a lot of the guesswork out of jury selection. Web users, especially those involved with social networking sites, are revealing much more of their personal information, often unknowingly. The Web also makes it easier for professional investigators to uncover personal information from ...
A teen book group at a Massachusetts library had a unique fundraiser last week...a cardboard tube battle! Check out the article from their local paper. I'd totally go to their group.

Today, we got a double dose of Japanese culture. First, 14 people showed up to watch the original Japanese version of the movie Shall We Dance?. The movie was about a straightlaced Japanese businessman learning to do ballroom dancing and we watched it with subtitles. We took a 1/2 hour break, then had anime club! Some people stayed after the movie,

It is really neat how much of a role the library is playing in the City of Birmingham’s revitalization plan. The Library of Birmingham, opening in 2013, will occupy a prime site on Centenary Square, the city’s largest public square, acting as the flagship for the regeneration of Birmingham, and celebrating the ‘Global City with a Local ...

The Aardvark Speaks
Even though almost everyone has probably heard him play at some point, Emil Richards is still one of the more obscure musicians in jazz history. In fact, Richards contributed to some of the best-known TV soundtracks. The xylophone in The Simpsons theme, the finger snaps in the Addams Family theme, the bongos on the original Mission Impossible ...

Links via Gary Price at ResourceShelf—along with some comments from me: –Cheaper Books Come at a High Cost to Worthy Literature, in the New York Times. Not only does the Times article discuss pricing issues, but also Wal-Mart’s favoritism toward politically conservative writers such as Glenn Beck. E-books, of course, as I see it, ...

If ever there was a picture of beauty belying a deeper cruelty, if ever there was an image of our power to cause untold harm, if ever there was a sign of man’s capacity to tap Mother Nature’s energy only to ravage her – the giant, rising mass of the mushroom cloud is it. Since their inception in the 1940s under the aegis of the Manhattan ...

This page shows a scale model of the solar system, shrunken down to the point where the Sun, normally more than eight hundred thousand miles across, is the size you see it here. The planets are shown in corresponding scale. Unlike most models, which are compressed for viewing convenience, the planets here are also shown at their true-to-scale ...
